NDGANZ Dog Sourcing Recommendations
Congratulations on joining us in grooming competitions, workshops or exams. Due to the high demand for “Model Dogs” we have developed a payment policy for sourcing and/maintaining dogs to bring us into line with most other countries were competitions and exams are held.
Finding the right dog can make a huge difference to you when you are being judged for your work. It is exceptionally difficult to succeed with a less than perfect dog in terms of behaviour, breed profile, or coat length. Having made the decision to go ahead with a dog, you really only have 2 options: You could source your own dog, maintain it yourself and drive/fly to the Contest/Exam/Workshop or: you could ask someone in the region of the Contest/Exam/Workshop to find and maintain one for you.
Each year, whether in the north or south island, we are constantly trying to match up people who want dogs, with people who have the ability to source dogs. Sometimes one of our members can spend many hours sourcing the perfect dog for a competitor, giving it a basic grooming or wash and brush out to assess its temperament, negotiating with the owner for the use of the dog, and then loosing revenue through their salon for a dog that will now miss out on 3 PAID grooms at the salon over the next few months. Only to find that a few weeks down the track the competitor backs out for some reason and the member maintaining the dogs is out of pocket..
For this reason, we have prepared the following recommendations for dog procurement which we believe to be fair for both parties involved.
For Christchurch dogs, the best contact would be Emma Case-Peters at Taffs Grooming Room, email address is [email protected] or Facebook (Emma Case) Private Message- which is the best form of contact initially.
Taffs Grooming Rooms Finders Fees for Model Dogs:
Having made the decision to do a dog, a “sourcing fee” of $40 for 1st dog ($30 for 2nd, $20 for 3rd, $10 for 4th) should be paid to Emma which will start her on the hunt for your dog/s. The money should be deposited into her bank account (see below) including your name and phone number in the reference and code fields.
This fee is non refundable should you change your mind and decide not to go ahead or manage to source your own dog elsewhere. In the unlikely event that a suitable dog cannot be found and other options have not been suitable, many hours of work will still have been spent hunting for one for you and it is only fair that someone be paid for that time.
Found the perfect dog.
When she has found what she considers the perfect dog for you, Emma will either email you photos (where possible) or post them on her facebook page and tag you in, of the dog or dogs, for your approval. Once you say yes to the dog, if you are local, arrangements may be made to put you in contact with the owner to maintain the dog yourself or it can be maintained for you on a pre-determined schedule. This maintenance will be done at a reduced rate as outlined below under “maintenance costs”.
Maintenance costs.
The cost is breed and size specific. In the 8-10 weeks leading up to the Contest, they will be bathed, dried, brushed out and have their ears cleaned and nails trimmed to the best that time allows. Each Groomer will need to do their own full preparation immediately prior to the event including washing, drying, clippering of the hygiene areas (feet, pads, anus, groin) If a dog is sourced closer to the time, less washes are required on that particular dog, however many others who ended up not having enough coat may have already been bathed in the initial stages of sourcing certain breeds and as time progresses, it becomes increasingly difficult to source suitable dogs of the correct coat length so it is advisable to start early. All Model Dogs supplied will be on first come + first paid = first served basis- so we advise you to make contact as soon as possible.
Bichons, Poodles Toy/Mini (Pet Trims), Cockers, Springers
Require maintenance on week 1, 3, 5, 7 event is week 8 – price per time is $30
Total price for maintenance is $120
Poodles Toy/Mini (Show Trim), Standard Poodles (Pet Trim)
Require maintenance on week 1, 3, 5, 7 event is week 8 – price per time is $45
Total price for maintenance is $180
Small Handstrips
Require maintenance on week 1, 6 or 7 event is week 8 – price is based on loss of income for 1 Groom
Total price for maintenance is $90
Large Handstrips
Require maintenance on week 1, 6 or 7 event is week 8 – price is based on loss of income for 1 Groom
Total price for maintenance is $130
As you can see, the above rates are very reasonable and as you can imagine, if her days were filled with only maintenance work, Emma would severely reduce her income on those days, but with her vast array of contacts in the dog world, you can rest assured she will do her very best to give you the best chance of succeeding at your event.
Pick up, delivery or overnight stays.
For $10 per dog, we can pick up your dog and may in some cases be able to arrange a place for you to wash the dog, if you do not have local facilities. We can also offer overnight stays if necessary, for $10 per dog, per night if your hotel/motel does not allow dogs.
Payments
All payments for maintenance should be paid 2 weeks before the Event.
If you for any reason do not require the dog/dogs, your maintenance cost/responsibilities will cease on the day you advise it, given that you inform us a reasonable amount of time before the contest and any monies unpaid at that time will still be owed. Of course there may be certain circumstances where a reasonable warning may not be given, but please inform Emma as soon as you decide you won't need the dog/s as they may be reallocated to other Groomers. Future maintenance can be considered cancelled.
If for any reason the dog becomes unavailable due to illness or accident or the dog (for example) every endeavour will be made to source you a replacement dog. Unfortunately refunds for work already carried out cannot be refunded due to the low costs involved.
